What Will You Learn in the Ten Qirat Course?
The Ten Qirat Course at UAE Quran Academy takes you from a solid foundation in Hafs to mastery of all ten authenticated recitation traditions — covering their phonological rules, their transmission chains, and the classical texts through which they are certified.
1. The Ten Qirat and Their Imams
The course begins with a precise introduction to each of the ten Qirat, their Imams, their cities of origin, and their two transmitters (Rawis). Students learn the authority behind each tradition and the scholarly conditions that authenticate it: correct sanad, conformity with Arabic grammar, and compatibility with the Uthmani Mushaf.
2. Phonological Distinctions Across All Ten Traditions
This is the technical core of the course. Each Qirat has its own characteristic rules in areas including Madd (elongation) durations, Hamzah pronunciation (full articulation versus tasheel, facilitation), Imaalah (inclination of the alif sound toward ya’), Idgham (assimilation) patterns, and specific word forms found in selected verses.
3. The Shatibiyyah and Durrah al-Mudiyyah Poems
Formal Qirat study is structured around classical texts. The Shatibiyyah (1,173 verses) covers the seven Qirat through the two transmitters of each Imam. The Durrat al-Mudiyyah (241 verses, by Ibn al-Jazari himself) covers the remaining three Qirat, completing the ten Qirat al-Sughra.
4. Recitation with Correction Under a Certified Muqri’
Qirat cannot be learned from text or audio alone. Transmission requires a living human chain: a certified Muqri’ who holds Ijazah in the relevant Qirat, listens to your recitation, corrects it in real time, and certifies your accuracy before you progress.
